High Speed Thrills at the Grande Premio do Brasil de Formula 1!
The Grande Premio do Brasil de Formula 1 is a Formula One championship race that happens in Interlagos at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace. The first time the race was held here was in 1972, and the following year the event became an official part of the Formula One calendar. Although the race changed locations a few times in those early years, the Sao Paulo Brasil Formula 1 Grand Prix has been held here every year since 1990.
Although some drivers are wary about competing at the Interlagos track, this circuit has resulted in some of the most memorable moments in Formula 1’s history – mainly because it is one of the faster, more challenging, and more dangerous tracks in the world. There has been some controversy in the past about the track’s safety, since plenty of other tracks around the world have been modified to be more ‘safe-conscious’, but the track record at this circuit is good enough that the Formula 1 association has deemed it perfectly safe for racing. The different setup just makes for a better and more exciting race!
Some of the Grande Premio de Brasil de Formula 1 events here have gone down as the most memorable moments in Brazilian sports history! In 2003, a Jordanian racer took home first place when heavy rains before and during the race caused many vehicles to spin out in the early laps. Even reigning champion Michael Schumacher ended the race early, and when a collision of several vehicles blocked the track, the event was forced to end early and have the Countback rule invoked. But the drama didn’t end there, because a replay of the tape days after the event resulted in an admission that the wrong person had been crowned winner, and first place went to Jordan’s Giancarlo Fisichella.
Confusing but exciting events like that are normal for the Grande Premio do Brasil de Formula 1! In fact, the track and races are so popular that in 2006, the Interlagos track was given the honor of hosting the final rounds of the racing season, which would be the final race for veteran Michael Schumacher. It was a thrilling event, because although Schumacher was held up by a minor accident during the ninth lap, he was able to make a pit stop, return to the race in front of the leader, and end the race in 4th place. While it wasn’t a victory, it was an honorable finish for one of the world leaders in Formula 1 racing. First place went to a Brazilian driver, which is always an exciting result on this track.
The Grande Premio do Brasil de Formula 1 in 2007 was just as intense an event as always, but tickets for the races were snapped up even faster than usual! As a result, if you are planning on taking in some Formula 1 racing while visiting Sao Paulo, you’ll need to buy your tickets far ahead of time – this is truly a national event, and it’s something you don’t want to miss!
