Take a Trip to the Races at the
Sao Paulo Auto Show

If you have the chance while in Sao Paulo, you definitely can’t miss one of the Sao Paulo auto shows at the Formula 1 racetrack! The original racing circuit was built here in 1938, before the city grew anywhere near the size it is today. It was in the 1970s that Paulonians decided that they wanted a Grand Prix of their own, and in 1973, this dream came true!

The Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace is named after Formula one racer Carlos Pace, who only had one opportunity to take home a Sao Paulo auto show victory, before his untimely death in a plane crash. Still, Formula 1 racing remains incredibly popular in Sao Paulo, and quite often the tickets for racing events will sell out up to 6 months ahead of time!

The Sao Paulo formula 1 circuit is quite difficult, due to its construction on rough terrain and uneven ground. Many of the corners are very tight, and drivers need to be prepared to work hard when they race in Sao Paulo – which is part of the reason why the races are so interesting!

Sao Paulo auto show races are held on Saturday and Sunday, though most package deals will include a Friday night stay so that you can head to the races rested and refreshed on Saturday morning! Extended checkout times at hotels affiliated with the Formula 1 circuit are also offered, making sure you can stay for the end of the event and don’t have to worry about lugging your baggage around with you during the day.

The huge Grand Prix is generally held in October of each year, usually around the end of the month. The city of Sao Paulo also tends to offer large discounts on public transportation during this time, to encourage the reduction of traffic congestion – the races are so popular, people tend to come from all across Brazil to watch!

The cost of a ticket is a bit high, however the Sao Paulo auto show is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience… except that you’ll probably want to come back again and again! A three day ticket in the lowest class seating sector will be around $300 USD, while high-end seats can cost over $1000 USD. One of the best choices for tourists hoping to see parts of the Sao Paulo auto show and Formula 1 racing is a package deal – this will include the cost of hotel, tickets to the races, and complimentary transportation between venues.
