Science and Technology for Everyone at the Sao Paulo Museum Estacao Ciencia

The Sao Paulo Museum Estacao Ciencia is an interactive science center associated with the University of Sao Paulo, and is housed in an old, renovated factory! Before the museum was here, the factory had been abandoned for many years – but judging by the vibrant colors and the excitement in the atmosphere, you’d never be able to tell! This museum is mostly focused on children and even then is geared toward the younger ages, which makes it a perfect stop for families who are visiting the city and want to do something just for the kids for once!

It is quite a regular thing to see tour groups of school children coming through the Sao Paulo Museum Estacao Ciencia, so don’t be surprised if the museum gets busy during the late afternoons! Mind you, there are exhibits that the kids won’t be able to understand and that mom and dad can spend some time admiring while the children play at the interactive stations, so there’s no need to worry about getting bored. The whole family can enjoy themselves here and learn at the same time!

Recognized as a multidisciplinary museum, the Sao Paulo Museum Estacao Ciencia has displays of everything ranging from astronomy, physics, hydrology, math, and meteorology, to geology, computer science, geography, history, biology… even city planning! Who knows, maybe your kids will realize that they really like one of these areas, and you may end up with an aspiring geologist!

The museum also holds regular programs for children, where they can learn more about the featured areas at the museum and help out with various experiments. These programs are either run or assisted by other students from the university who are in the science program in one of the featured areas. In fact, some of the day programs may be perfect for parents who want to visit some of Sao Paulo’s other museums – fine art, history – and don’t think that their children would really enjoy that. Enroll them in a science program, pick them up at the end of the day, and hear about the incredible time they had! Many of the students who assist here are also multilingual, so you may not need to worry about communication.

To get to the Sao Paulo Museum Estacao Ciencia, head to Rue Guaicurus 1394. Hours are 8am until 6pm throughout the week, and on Sundays and holidays, the hours are slightly reduced, running from 9am until 6pm.
