Freedom of Expression Through the Sao Paulo Museum Itau Cultural
It has been 20 years since the Sao Paulo Museum Itau Cultural began its work in the city, and even today, it continues to be an integral part of community events and awareness of diversity. The cultural center was created to help promote and spread Brazilian culture not only within Brazil itself, but also to other countries! It functions as a reference point for the city’s cultural heritage, which means that it is a preservation tool for all the incredibly diverse cultural expressions that have emerged in Sao Paulo and Brazil throughout the centuries.
Not only that, but the Sao Paulo Museum Itau Cultural is also a strategic move by the local government – after all, the more people appreciate their cultural heritage and where they’ve come from, the more likely they are to be better citizens to each other and work together as a whole! There are two parts of the cultural center as well, each functioning for different purposes. The first is the actual museum and cultural center, which works to offer free programs to the general public – and visitors! The second is an institute dedicated to cultural research and preservation.
The institute uses its influence to encourage the people of Sao Paulo to utilize their artistic talents, in order to express themselves visually and through different artistic mediums. No matter what cultural background someone may have, if they’re a citizen of Brazil, they are given a great deal of encouragement to create what they feel is the best expression of themselves. Then, the cultural center is able to help do whatever it can to preserve and promote that artistic expression!
The Sao Paulo Museum Itau Cultural hosts workshops and performances of all varieties, and visitors are encouraged to make their way to the cultural center to see what it’s all about! The amazing thing about visiting here is that the art and performances you see are created by real people, living right in Sao Paulo, whose talent may have otherwise gone unnoticed – who knows, you may even meet one of these amazing artists on your visit!
The center has also won many, many awards throughout the years for its work to help build and support local communities. If you’re interested in making a stop here while visiting in Sao Paulo – and it is definitely a rewarding experience – make your way to Avenida Paulista 149!
