A Helpful Guide to Sao Paulo
Sightseeing Opportunities!

Looking to do a little Sao Paulo sightseeing? After all, why just stay inside the city when there’s a whole state to explore! There are plenty of nearby cities and beaches that you can visit, either on a daytrip or a few days’ journey – there’s no use limiting yourself, so get out there and have an adventure!

One fantastic Sao Paulo sightseeing daytrip is a journey to Embu, about 27 kilometers outside of Sao Paulo city. Every Sunday morning, Embu holds a city-wide craft fair – the streets are literally covered in stalls with vendors selling clothes, handmade pillows, baskets, ornaments... anything you can imagine! In addition, Brazilian folk painters will set up around the edge of the fair – why not purchase a piece of original artwork to bring home?

During the summer, the majority of Sao Paulo sightseeing is done at the beach! With over 600 kilometers of coastline, the northern coast offers such tropical swim and surf opportunities as the Ubatuba beaches, Bertioga, or Maresias, to name a few. Typically, hotels will offer a shuttle for their guests to take a daytrip to these beaches, or you could pay for a cab or rent a vehicle to get yourself there. You will want to schedule a whole day for a trip to the beach – if the weather is sunny and not too hot, you might not ever want to leave!

Another great Sao Paulo sightseeing trip is a hiking tour at the Ilha Grande, where you can cross visual displays of all the Atlantic Forest ecosystems! Though it may take several days out of your trip, you’ll have an opportunity to travel from a high peak in the Itatiai-Massiv, all the way to sea level. This is a once-in-a-lifetime attraction, and it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re physically fit and up to the challenge, it’s more than worth the journey.

For the adventurous daytripper, head to the city of Brotas in the west. This town has some of the best white-water rafting opportunities in Brazil, while hot springs are located nearby for relaxing after a long day! A little farther away from the major city centre of Sao Paulo are some of the southern coast’s most exciting features: nature preserves, where visitors can walk around tropical settings safely, and sometimes catch a glimpse of tropical wildlife! You’ll find these preserves at Ilha do Cardoso, Lagunar Estuary Complex, and the Jureia-Itatins Ecological Station.
